FICA in BH: Rental housing and homelessness policies

In September, we went to the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) to discuss public policies for rental housing and policies for the homeless.

The event was held in partnership between FICA and the Observatório das Metrópoles (RMBH Center), and brought together a variety of participants, including public managers at municipal (from the cities of Belo Horizonte, Contagem and Santa Luzia), state (Minas Gerais government) and national level. It was also attended by representatives of social movements, civil society organizations involved in the provision of housing, and academics committed to research in the area.

Together, we understood what each sector has been developing in the area and created a space for exchange between the institutions present, with the common goal of having more resilient cities and enabling access to housing.

The main points discussed were:

Public policies for rental housing;

Housing First projects and civil society experiences;

Target audiences for rental housing policies;

Social renting in the Minha Casa Minha Vida program.
