4 months of Morar Primeiro and the inauguration of another property

We are delighted to announce the inauguration of the second property in the Morar Primeiro program, an initiative of FICA in partnership with Father Júlio Lancelotti, of the São Miguel Arcanjo Parish. The program, which is now four months old, has proved to be a powerful tool for transformation and social inclusion for the homeless population.

The Housing First theory suggests that housing is the first step in reintegrating homeless people into the dynamics of modern life. But as the name implies, this is only the beginning - social, educational and health work is also needed. The four months of the program confirm this premise - Morar Primeiro has achieved remarkable results in fundamental areas such as work and income, health, education and citizenship.

Below we list some of the victories that have been achieved:

Work and Income

  • Five of the women are employed, two with registered cards and three in informal jobs. This work opportunity gives them a chance to rebuild their lives and guarantee a livelihood.
  • Three men also found jobs in informal services, which contributes to their social and economic rehabilitation.
  • Two residents were given the opportunity to carry out plumbing and painting services at FICA.

Health

  • In partnership with Mackenzie's undergraduate psychology course, a project was started to offer psychological care to the program's residents. Taking care of mental health is essential for the full recovery of these people.
  • A baby with special needs now receives more attentive medical care, providing them with the necessary treatment to ensure their well-being.

Education

  • One resident received a computer to help her return to school and complete her primary education.
  • Another resident had the opportunity to take a classroom course in logistics, which could open doors to a more stable and prosperous career.
  • All the children are enrolled and attending school, guaranteeing them the chance of a future with more possibilities.

Citizenship

  • The animals that are part of the program have also received care and attention. They underwent veterinary consultations, received dewormers and were vaccinated.
  • Morar Primeiro has signed a partnership with the Human Rights Ombudsman's Office to support two families in the process of recovering custody of their children. Providing this legal support is essential for strengthening family ties.
  • A mini library was inaugurated in the program's first building, encouraging reading and knowledge among the residents. Plans are also underway for a community garden, which will provide healthy food and encourage sustainability.
  • One resident is currently in the process of getting her license, an important step towards her independence and mobility.
  • To help with legal issues, residents now have the help of lawyers, guaranteeing access to justice and the defense of their rights.

The FICA Fund and Father Julio Lancelotti are proud of the progress Morar Primeiro has made so far. It is important to note that this was only possible thanks to the partners and collaborators who have accompanied the program so far:
