CABURÉ

This property is the first in the Student Housing Program. Our first selection took place in September 2023. The spaces were rented to graduate students who receive student aid from the University (PAPFE).

The rent varies between 800 reais (single apartments) and 1000 reais (two-person apartments). This is less than half the price of equivalent apartments on the market.

The next selection process will be announced shortly.

Where is

Located in Vila Indiana, 100 meters from one of the entrances to USP, the Caburé building is in a neighborhood known for its student life. However, housing in the area is becoming increasingly unaffordable and subject to real estate speculation.

In front of the building are the Iquiririm River springs, which were rediscovered by the Rios e Ruas collective and are looked after by the local community. Caburé is next door to Horta Iquiririm, a collective project in the neighborhood. Every first Sunday of the month, a joint effort is held to look after the springs and the vegetable garden and, if you're lucky, you can enjoy a samba at the end.

How is

The building has 20 furnished studios, each with a bathroom, 15 of which are for one resident and 5 for two. There are also common areas, a study room and a communal laundry room.

History

The property was bought by a supporting family and given on loan to FICA. The name of the building was chosen in reference to a Brazilian owl, a symbol of wisdom. The property is intended for USP students who receive student aid from the university. The rent will be the lowest in the region, guaranteeing high quality housing and support for maintenance and condominium organization.

FICA has created a fund for the property, called the Caburé Fund, which will help pay for the maintenance of the building, enabling low rents and better housing conditions to be maintained.

You can contribute to the Caburé Fund using the PIX key: cabure@fundofica.org. The Caburé building project has been approved by the USP Heritage Fund, and we are building an institutional partnership to receive donations through this fund.
