Tomaz de Lima
This flat is the first flat FICA acquired entirely through collective funding. It is an achievement for all of us and is also an important milestone for the consolidation of the project.
Where is
In the neighborhood of Liberty, 7 minutes walk from the underground freedom (500m) and 6 minutes from the station of the Cathedral (550m). In a quiet street with small trades.
How is
The flat has 57 m² and is located in the central region of Sao Paulo. It has a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room and a very large bedroom with two opposite windows.
Renovation of the flat
For the elaboration of the renovation project of Apartment 2, we invited associates, supporters and sympathizers to participate in 4 virtual meetings. The project was developed collectively and the work is being supervised by associate Artur Duarte.
We also rely on donations of furniture, building materials and financial support from our network of supporters. Special thanks to Hertz Esquadrias, who donated all the new windows for the flat.
Selection of residents
Here, as in the renovation, we rely on the collaboration of volunteers for this process. In weekly meetings, all the procedures and criteria for selecting the new residents were discussed. They are: family income (between 2 and 3 minimum wages), presence of children, family headed by a woman (cis or trans) and work in the centre. In this process, we gave priority to black, brown and indigenous people.
The nominations of the families were made by partner institutions, such as the Unification of Tenement Struggles (ULC) and the Gaspar Garcia Human Rights Centre.
